Superfoods To Eat Daily

What are superfoods?  These are foods that are high in antioxidants, essential fatty acids or fibre, which are beneficial to a person’s health. Ronald was a regular guest on the Chrissy B Show several years ago where he talked about a few superfoods we highly recommend you consume weekly if not daily.  Watch our TV recording below to learn more.

1.Bittergourd or Bitter melon

This tastes bitter as per its name. However this superfood is incredibly great for your liver and pancreas. It is proven to heal various illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure. It can either be eaten raw or cooked slightly by stir frying or steaming.

2. Organic Celery

If you have got arthritis, eating at least six stalks of organic celery daily will reduce the acidity in your body, which is the main cause of arthritis. It will help alkalize your body and also strengthen your bones. Celery should be eaten raw if possible or very lightly cooked, either by stir frying or adding to soups that are simmering on a low temperature. The celery needs to be organic as non organic celery may have lots of chemical pesticides in its tubes that are impossible to remove via cleaning.

3. Cucumber

This will help keep your body moisturised and help with having great skin. It is naturally cooling and you should eat the skin as well as most of the nutrients are directly under the skin. You can make a dish called Tzatziki with cucumber, goats yoghurt, garlic, chilli, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil and sea salt.

4. Onions

This is part of the sulphur family of vegetables. It has antibacterial properties that can help prevent cold, flu and all other viruses. It will also help remove mucus or phlegm from your lungs. Red onions are more potent than the white ones. If you are ill, slice one red onion into small pieces and soak in a bowl of hot water. Place it by your bedside when you sleep and it will help you feel a lot better in the morning.

5. Red Apples

An apple a day keeps the Doctor away, as you may have heard. Two red apples a day will certainly keep most or all Doctors away, is our proven saying. Eat these during the day as a snack or say at least 30 minutes after a main meal. Eat a variety of red apples each week. Therefore when you go shopping, buy a variety of apples such as Braeburn, Pink Lady, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Fuji and Gala. Eating two red apples and a pear can also reduce your high blood pressure. It will also help with your fibre intake and help with your digestive system and daily bowel movements.

6. Brown Rice, Red Rice and Wild Rice

Most people eat white rice because they are accustomed to it. They also normally have mindset issues re why they cannot switch to healthier options. However, once they realise there is very little nutrition in white rice, it is also very starchy and is one of the main causes of Diabetes, they will normally make some effort to abstain from it. We recommend eating 40% Brown rice, 40% Red rice and 20% wild rice instead. It takes a lot more water to cook these rice, however well worth it.  This is a tremendously great combination for B Complex vitamins, which are the energy vitamins and is very important for the liver and the brain.

7. Goji Berries

This can be added before serving the rice combination above. It is very good for your eyes as it contains lutein, which may help reduce inflammation in your eyes, reduce oxidative stress and fight off free radicals. Similar to other berries, it contains a high amount of Vitamins A and C.

Many women, especially at the age when they are menstruating are anaemic. Lentils especially Beluga lentils are a good source of both soluble and insoluble fibre. It is also very high in iron content which will help with anaemia. Lentils come in a variety of colours such as yellow, brown, red, green and black. They are also a great source of protein.
