Vegetables Beneficial For Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic or long-lasting health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. Over 415 Million people worldwide are living with Diabetes. It is estimated that over half a billion will have Diabetes within the next 20 years! It is therefore so important for us to learn how to prevent and treat Diabetes naturally.

Do you or someone you know have diabetes or is pre-diabetic? Have you ever wondered which vegetables are beneficial for Diabetes or maintaining great health? Watch our video recording to learn about vegetables beneficial for Diabetes.

The vegetables beneficial for Diabetes include:

Bitter Gourd or Bitter Melon or Karela

Consume preferably the dark green ones as these are most potent. Most people overcook this vegetable or soak it in salt water overnight to remove the bitterness. This is incorrect! You are meant to taste the bitterness so that it works with and benefits your liver. The bitter gourd is best eaten raw, by dicing into bite size pieces or in the form or juice or lightly cooked, either by stir frying on low heat or steaming for maximum 5 minutes. Our recipe is shared in Chapter 8 of The Diabetes Solution Amazon Number 1 Best selling book.

Watercress

This vegetable is eaten raw or sprinkled on cooked food including soups. It is rich in iron which will help when your body is inflamed, which causes most illnesses such as Diabetes. We recommend you eat at least 80 grams of this vegetable daily if you have Diabetes and at least 40 grams of watercress daily if you are pre-diabetic.

Cucumber

This vegetable should be eaten raw with the skin. It contains a high percentage of water and is very cooling to the body. We recommend eating 1 large cucumber or 2 to 3 smaller cucumbers daily to maintain great health.

Organic Celery

We recommend Organic Celery as non organic celery is one of the most poisonous vegetables. This is because any pesticides get into the inner tubes of the celery which is not possible to wash off. It is therefore important to spend a bit more buying the Organic Celery or grow your own celery without use of any pesticides.

Herbs

Make it a habit to add some herbs to all your meals. Herbs such as mint, chives and coriander are easy to obtain in most countries and are beneficial to overall health, including the prevention and management of Diabetes naturally.

Most processed foods are high in refined carbohydrates and processed sugars. Consuming these regularly will put you at risk of developing Diabetes. These include fizzy drinks, pizzas, cakes, bread and biscuits. Red and processed meats such as bacon, hot dogs and deli meats are high in sodium and nitrates and must be avoided. Aim instead to eat as much fresh fruits and vegetables as possible and eliminate eating highly processed foods.

Foods such as curcumin, fenugreek, cinnamon and bitter melon have natural properties that help strengthen our pancreas, liver and other key organs that work together in preventing or treating Diabetes. Other foods that are beneficial include sulphur rich foods such as garlic and onions and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts. Sweet potatoes, eaten with the skin is also beneficial for overall Wellness and for those who have Diabetes.

When choosing and deciding which foods and drinks to consume, always bear in mind the hidden processed sugars that are added to foods that may not taste sweet. Fruits and vegetables that taste naturally sweet are much safer to consume than processed and other starchy foods like white rice and white potatoes that do not taste sweet.
