Do I Have Diabetes?
Diabetes is a long lasting or chronic health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. Diabetes occurs when your blood glucose or blood sugar is too high. Our main source of energy comes from the food and drinks we consume. Our pancreas produces a hormone called insulin and this hormone helps glucose from food and drinks consumed get into our cells to be used for energy.
Type 1 Diabetes, where the pancreas is unable to create insulin, can develop at any age, although it often happens during childhood or adolescence. The more common Type 2 Diabetes, where the blood sugar is too high due to insulin resistance, can develop at any age, although it is more common in those over 40 years old and of certain ethnicity such as Asian and African. This is predominantly caused by genes and alos lifestyle of these cultures. Prediabetes occurs when your blood sugar is identified as higher than normal but not high enough to be Type 2 Diabetes. At this stage, lifestyle changes can be made to lessen the likelihood of preogressing the disease to Type 2 Diabetes.
In our short video below, we explain how Iridology can be used to spot Diabetes.
When you have an Iridology consultation with us, we can show you if you should be concerned about signs of potential Diabetes from your eye photos. We will then show you how you can either prevent or reverse your Diabetes naturally. If you are concerned about Diabetes, you should have a blood test to check for this. The sooner you get this condition confirmed, the sooner treatment can begin. The following are some of the warning signs, which are common symptoms of Diabetes. The symptoms vary depending on how much your blood sugar is elevated. Some people with prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes may not experience any symptoms.
Blurred Vision
High blood sugar can cause damage to the small blood vessels of the eye. This results in a swollen lens that can cause blurred vision. Your vision may return to normal or worsen as blood sugar levels rise and lower.
Extreme Hunger
When your body is expelling the high blood sugar, this may cause increased feelings of hunger.
Fatigue
When your blood sugar is high, your body works hard to get rid of the excess sugar. This alters the way your body uses glucose for energy and takes a toll on your energy levels, causing fatigue.
Frequent Infections
This can affect areas such as the gums, genitals and skin. The excess sugar in your blood and urine creates an ideal environment for yeast. Yeast can feed off the extra sugar in the genitals area, mouth and skin.
Frequent Urination
When your blood sugar is high, your kidneys expel the excess sugar via urination. The early warning signs of Diabetes is urgent urination that wakes you up during sleep to urinate.
Increased thirst
When you are urinating more frequently, valuable fluids will be pulled from your tissues. This makes your kidneys work overtime and you will therefore feel constantly thirsty as your body requires the fluid expelled via urination to be replaced.
Slow Healing Sores
Damaged blood vessels cause weakened blood circulation. This means it is harder for blood to react the affected area and minor cuts and wounds may take a lot longer to heal. This slow healing of cuts and wounds makes these areas prone to infection and increases the risk of amputation.
Unexplained Weight Loss
When your body is unable to use glucose for energy, it starts burning fat and muscle, causing weight loss.
The following are some of the common risk factors of getting Diabetes.
Age – normally 40 years and older
Ethnicity – Africans, Asians and Indians are normally at a higher risk
Family History of Diabetes. Also if there is a history of heart disease, stroke or high blood pressure
Lifestyle – Sedentary lifestyle with minimal movement or exercise
Weight – overweight or obese
If you wish to have an initial non invasive check on whether you are Diabetic or Prediabetic, an Iridology examination can detect high sugar levels. If this is detected and a source of concern, we will then recommend you have a detailed blood test to confirm our findings.

Some people are scared or do not wish to find out if they have any illnesses. This is equivalent to waiting for your vehicle to breakdown on a journey because you did not want to get it serviced or checked before the journey. Our bodies are the same and it is wiser to have regular health checks at least once a year to be aware of any potential illnesses so that recommendations can be followed to deal with these illnesses before it gets worse and more difficult to manage.
